JERSEY CITY, NJ – On September 8, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) Director Jared Maples will speak at the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation’s Empty Sky Memorial 5K Run/Walk, along with several municipal, county, State, and federal law enforcement leaders. Director Maples will take part in the 9/11 Memorial Remembrance Ceremony that kicks off the event at approximately 9:30 , followed by the 5K Walk/Run. Candlelight Vigil held for International Overdose Awareness Day

Robbinsville, NJ: The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Robbinsville Township, and the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County hold a candlelight vigil for those who lost their lives to Opioid overdose. At least 72,000 people overdose on opioids per year in the United States. International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held one day during the last week in August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. NJOHSP compiles a statewide list of special events to be distributed to all law enforcement agencies to provide situational awareness and to assist in local planning requirements.
