NJOHSP Pays Tribute to New Jersey Residents Who Lost Their Lives on September 11, 2001

JERSEY CITY, NJ – On September 8, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) Director Jared Maples will speak at the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation’s Empty Sky Memorial 5K Run/Walk, along with several municipal, county, State, and federal law enforcement leaders. Director Maples will take part in the 9/11 Memorial Remembrance Ceremony that kicks off the event at approximately 9:30 , followed by the 5K Walk/Run. The course for the 5K starts at the Empty Sky Memorial located in Liberty State Park in Jersey City (Hudson County) and runs along the Hudson River, with views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of the Liberty, and Ellis Island. Candlelight Vigil held for International Overdose Awareness Day

Robbinsville, NJ: The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Robbinsville Township, and the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County hold a candlelight vigil for those who lost their lives to Opioid overdose. At least 72,000 people overdose on opioids per year in the United States. International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held one day during the last week in August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.
