HACKENSACK: The Bergen County Justice Center was evacuated at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday after sheriff’s officers were alerted to “suspicious items” in the building. Security personnel evacuated the building within the next half hour and after an hourlong search to ensure that the building was safe, people were permitted to return to the courthouse building, said Anthony Cureton, a spokesman for the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. The building, at 10 Main St., was cleared within an hour and reopened to the public at 1 p.m., Cureton said. There were no reported injuries and the evacuation was “safe and orderly” Cureton said. He would not disclose details about the suspicious items, saying only that they were “under review.”
